If you’re not familiar with the series, Life Is Strange works very similarly to Telltale games, except with better graphics and notably more complex use of branching narrative – where your decisions have a clear and very significant effect on the story.įrench developer Dontnod claim that this episode in particular has the largest web of possible interactions they’ve ever enabled, something you can see illustrated at the end of the episode when the game shows what percentage of players chose each option at each point in the narrative. The last episode was released in January, which is an absurd amount of time to wait for a gameplay experience that is barely more than two hours long. We expected great things from the subsequent episodes but what we got was an incredibly slow-paced ramble through the backwoods of America and a purposefully dull mini-game about harvesting weed. The plot they find themselves caught up in though, is a different matter…Īfter the impressively bold opening episode it seemed as if Life Is Strange 2 would be a politically charged journey through Trump’s America, exploring issues of racism and prejudice through the eyes of the two young sons of a Mexican immigrant. Switching to a different set of characters was a bold decision, and while they’re never as interesting as Max, Chloe, and the rest they’re not completely unengaging. Now that it’s passed the halfway mark, we think it’s fair to say that Life Is Strange 2 is not having quite the same impact as the original or its prequel.
